What files should I ask for?
One of the most common buyer mistakes is paying for a logo and receiving only a flat image file. Ask for the right set of deliverables at the start.
Core files to request
- Vector/source file
- PNG with transparent background
- JPG or PNG for simple use
- Black version
- White or reversed version
- Horizontal and stacked variations if relevant
- Favicon or social-icon crop if needed
Why this matters
- Vectors scale cleanly
- Transparent files work on many backgrounds
- Color variations prevent future headaches
- Alternate lockups help with layout needs
Simple rule
If a designer cannot clearly explain what files you will receive, do not assume you are getting everything you need.
